I inherited my UPC internet connection and a Technicolor tc7200 cable modem / router from the previous tenant of the apartment. In the past it’s been working OK, but recently I’m having more and more trouble with it. For example the connection to my Chromecast is spotty, loading websites occasionally time out, internet speed drops randomly to a crawl and then gets back up, etc.
I strongly suspect it’s the modem’s fault - it seems like an old and worn piece, and reading about this model on the internet doesn’t fill me with confidence either. Also, often when I have network troubles, the modem’s internal admin site (192.168.0.1) doesn’t load, and I have to power-cycle it to make things work again.
I have all my equipment in a small room, no more than 2m from the modem, so I’m pretty sure it’s not about interference.
Is there any way I can get a replacement modem? I’ve heard about new ones being shipped out recently, but don’t know the details.
