Deactivation of the UPC TV App for Windows 10 per end of year

Community Manager

The UPC TV app is the ideal way to immerse yourself in the entertaining world of UPC while on the go. With the last release 4.26 the further development of the UPC TV App for Windows 10 was finished. From mid-September, active users will be able to take advantage of a soft migration to the UPC TV website upctv.ch before the use of the Windows 10 app is blocked at the end of the year.

Shortly:
- Due to lack of demand, the UPC TV app for Windows 10 will be shut down at the end of the year
- The apps for tablets and smartphones as well as 3rd party devices (Apple TV, Android TV, FireTV) are not affected by the shutdown
- Pop-ups in the app inform users about the impending shutdown
- Customers can still use UPC TV via the website (upctv.ch)

Explanation:
More and more customers use the website upctv.ch to consume their favorite TV shows and movies via laptop or desktop. At the same time, there are fewer and fewer users of the UPC TV app on Windows 10, which is why the app will be discontinued at the end of the year.

What will happen?
Active users will be migrated to the UPC TV website upctv.ch For this purpose, pop-ups will be displayed in apps in phases from mid-September onwards. Starting with an information about the change and ending with the blocking of the app at the end of the year. The development of new features for Windows 10 was already completed with the last release. Security patches and critical fixes as well as support will continue until the app is completely shut down at the end of the year.

What are the alternatives?
Affected customers can still enjoy UPC TV via upctv.ch. Since June we also offer an installable upctv.ch app on Chrome (Windows and Mac). This can be installed in two simple steps:
1. Access upctv.ch via Chrome
2. install PWA via pop-up or + in URL Bar

The PWA can be placed anywhere on the desktop, in the Windows Taskbar or in the Mac OSX Dock for quick access.

Greetings
