UBEE modem, my computer cannot find default gateway

Hello everyone.

I started with cablecom (internet 10) from the beginning of April
this year. In the first two weeks, everything was perfect. However, starting
from the recent 3-4 weeks, the connection between my laptop and the ubee modem
starts breaking. The connection breaks especially when I watch online programs or download data. During the
breaks, the modem lights looks as normal. If I only run 'light' programs like MSN, the connection is stable.

During the breaks, MSN says it cannot find the default gateway, ping also cannot reach the gateway.

If I unplug and plug in the network cable, my laptop get a IP of 169.*.*.*, with no gateway
from the modem (my laptop was also restarted once, it still got the IP 169.*

). At the moment, I keep restarting the UBEE modem to solve the problem, it is very annoying.

After I sent several emails to the cablecom and someone checked the connection remotely,
I was told the connection has no problem (here I supposed that the connection may be referred to the one between the modem
and cablecom server, not including the connection between my laptop and the modem).

Before my laptop get a 84.* address, I check the modem at 192.168.100.1 and have these information:

Cablecom asked me to answer the following questions by email before:

What is the Mac address of the cable modem (visible on the underside of the cable modem)?
CM MAC 906EBB64CE84; MAT MAC 906EBB64CE85

Do you have a multimedia socket (3-port cable jack) or a 2-port cable jack?
3-port jack.

How long is the white aerial cable between the cable modem and cable
jack? Are you using an extension lead? Please only use the original
cable.
I use the original one; the length is around 4 meters.

What does the cable modem do in the case of such failures? Which lights flash?
The UBEE modem's lights work as normal, the PC light flashes, other
lights (Ready, RECV, SEND, POWER) are on. However, if I ping the
gateway, no response from it, as well as nslookup; after restarting the
modem, it works.

What have you done to reconnect? It often helps if you briefly unplug the cable modem from the mains.
I SWITCH OFF IT BY USING THE POWER BUTTON ON THE BACK OF THE MODEM.

How long have you been experiencing this problem? (Days, months?)
IT STARTS AROUND APRIL 20, ABOUT 10-14 DAYS SO FAR. IT WORKED PERFECT DURING THE FIRST TWO WEEKS AFTER I RECEIVED THE MODEM.

Did anyone get the same problem before? ---- Yes!

I found a similar problem from this forum, Unstable internet (via cable). My modem is UBEE EVM3230, same model as his.

It seems that this similar problem exists for some time, not only one or two cases after checking other source on internet.

UBEE2.jpg shows the ipaddress from the failed UBEE connection.

Yesterday I call the service line and I was told to keep the modem on for check, probably I'll get the same answer from them that saying the connection works no problem.

Could anyone please advise what to do next?

Re: UBEE modem, my computer cannot find default gateway

For anyone is suffering this similar problem, using a shielded network cable instead of the one with modem package may be a solution. At the moment, I use a AMP CAT6 cable and it is fine now.

Re: UBEE modem, my computer cannot find default gateway

Hi,

I'm having exactly the same problem, with the modem apparently hanging and me having to reboout constantly.

Frankly, this is simply not OK for me since I tend to work remotely (connecting in) and can't physically get to the modem everytime it goes down. I'm very close to just stopping my subscription and switch to Swisscom fiber. :-(
